Guardian Tactical manufactures precision tactical knives using CNC machining and hand-finishing processes. Founded in 2012 by blade design engineer Andy Buerk and CNC machinist Brian Mercer, the company produces knives with bearing-assisted deployment systems and tight manufacturing tolerances. The RECON and GTX series are made in the USA with over 200 hand operations and include a lifetime warranty for material and workmanship defects.
Elmax and CPM-20CV Blade Steels
Guardian Tactical uses premium powdered metallurgy steels across their product line. Elmax steel offers balanced edge retention and corrosion resistance through its chromium, vanadium, and molybdenum composition. It achieves 58-60 HRC hardness with fine carbide distribution that supports thin edge geometry. CPM-20CV is Crucible's version of Bohler M390 and offers increased vanadium carbide content for wear resistance. MagnaCut is the newest addition, combining corrosion resistance with toughness by reducing chromium carbide formation. Both drop point and tanto blade profiles are available depending on the model, with blade lengths from 2.5 to 4 inches across the GTX-025, RECON-035, and RECON-040 configurations.
Bearing Slider Deployment Systems
Guardian Tactical's patented deployment mechanism uses ceramic bearings in the thumb slider assembly. The bearing system reduces friction, allowing smooth blade deployment with minimal thumb pressure. The slider runs on machined metal rails instead of direct aluminum contact, which extends lifespan and maintains consistency across temperature ranges. This design features 22 contact points for stability during deployment and lockup.
6061-T6 Aluminum and Ambidextrous Pocket Clips
Handle materials consist of hard-anodized 6061-T6 aluminum in multiple color options including black, blue, burnt orange, and OD green finishes. The aluminum receives Type III hard anodizing for scratch resistance and corrosion protection. Carbon fiber variants reduce overall weight while maintaining structural rigidity through aerospace-grade composite layering. Most Guardian Tactical models feature pocket clips that accommodate left or right hand carry for ambidextrous users.
